The World of Vyrdoon

A world of dragons, a world without humans. Vyrdoon is home to five elemental dragon species who share a massive continent about the size of Eurasia. Each of the five live in very different environments and have very different cultures.

The Metal dragons are the largest of the dragons, with heavy grayish armored plating and the ability to breath thick black smoke. They are ruled by a War Council, and sometimes a President. Their culture is extremely war-like, with a heavy focus on maintaining the Clan’s honor and building a list of dragons who owe the Clan favors. Metal dragons live deep under the mountain, where metallic treasures are plentiful, and so have no interest them. They only care about bartering, tournaments, and questing.

The Light dragons are brightly-colored and swift flyers capable of breathing rays of fire in quick bursts. They are ruled by a Queen and her lords and ladies, each of whom owns a section of land and are in charge of collecting taxes from it. They are obsessed with treasure, and the Queen has the lion’s share, which she uses to help keep her subjects in line. What ties the kingdom together is the belief in the four Sun Gods, and the most powerful of whom is Lasoar, The Great Light, who gave The Light dragons their speed and fire.

The Storm dragons are dark-colored, large dragons capable of flying forever and never getting lost in a storm. They are the only dragons capable of swimming underwater for long periods of time. Storm dragons are ruled by the King or Queen, the largest and strongest of the Storm dragons, and his death means that his title is up for grabs. These competitions are taken extremely seriously because it can mean the difference between living in the Gulf of Storms or living on a peninsula just outside the worst maelstrom. A Storm dragon’s strength decides everything in life and competition is fierce.

The Frost dragons are pale and spiky, with spiral horns and frail-looking bodies. As the most scientifically minded creatures, the Frost dragons also tends to be the hardest for any other dragon race to understand due to their choice of language and need to explain everything in detail to the simpler dragons of the south. They come from the frozen north and never adapted to warm climates, leading to them being isolationists. Their harsh environment made them focus heavily on survival, and their dedication to science leads their government to be deeply involved in daily life, going so far as to assign mates purely based on healthy family lines. It is not a surprise that Frost dragon are never happy.

The Cloud dragons are frail, deer-like dragons with long tin legs, massive sprawling antlers and long whip-thin prehensile tails. They live in villages run by an Alliance of Chiefs under massive canopies that, for thousands of years, kept them isolated from the northern mountain fairing Metals and Lights and the storms and dragons of the west. Years ago, the Cloud dragons ate nearly all forest fauna to extinction, leading to the Alliance which made it illegal to eat anything other than plants. Despite this, those of the Cloud Grove Council are allowed special permission to eat meat because it is believed proving a Cloud dragon still eats meat is the only way to maintain respect from the other dragon races.

The Shade dragons are black dragons that spit black flames or acid, depending on the myth. They are often depicted in religion all across the continent as creatures of death and evil. However, there is no evidence they existed–at least according to Frost dragons.
